Overall Episode Rating: 3/10 stars
There was definitely drama in this episode. However, I think this episode really put into perspective how disappointing this entire season has been. Most of the couples seem like an alright match at best, and I honestly don’t think there is any love on this entire beach. All the last ditch couples just felt weird and ingenuine. However, without further ado: here are our top takeaways from this week’s episode:
Mercedes confronts Tyler about the state of their relationship because she’s not sure if he’s actually in the place to be in a committed relationship or just in a place to fuck-around.
Honestly, I have been sceptical about how much Tyler likes Mercedes ever since he randomly made-out with Jess and absolutely no-one acknowledged it. He seems like he’s had his guards up this entire season because of what happened to him last year on paradise. I think he simply just might be too traumatized to start a real relationship with Mercedes even if he was into her enough. To make matters worse he literally tells Mercedes that yeah he doesn’t fully know if there’s a spark between them. Him saying that was completely fair, it’s just that why would he string her along for so long if he didn’t really think any of this would pan out. Regardless, after this conversation Tyler left the beach - I’m glad he was self-aware enough to do that. Overall, disappointed to see how Tyler’s time in paradise turned out. I would have liked it if he and Rachel had a reunion and ended up together after paradise. I think their love story had more potential than anyone else’s on the beach.

2. Blake pulls Jess aside to have a conversation about their relationship
because he doesn’t feel like they are in the place they need to be to continue
their relationship.
I think everyone saw this coming. I think when you really like someone, the start of your relationship with them shouldn’t be so rocky and hard to navigate. Things should just feel right, and I don’t think it ever truly felt right between them. Additionally, I think they are just in dramatically different stages of their life. They have a pretty substantial age difference with Blake in his mid-30s and Jess in her mid-20s. It just feels like they view relationships in a different way and have different levels of emotional maturity. I mean come-on Jess’s biggest reason that she missed Blake when he went on a date with someone else is that she misses having him around to compliment her. I think that was the true sign that this relationship was doomed.

3. Blake decides to leave the beach after his conversation with Jess, and Kylee
chases after him asking him to stay because she thinks he needs to give things
another chance and that she’ll miss him too much on the beach.
This was the single most confusing interaction I have ever seen on the sands of paradise???? I had no idea that Blake and Kylee were close in any way shape or form. Also I don’t know if it was just me, but this interaction seemed to be filled with an insane amount of sexual tension. Overall, just incredibly weird vibes from the entire interaction.

4. There’s never really a direct acknowledgement of Tanner’s weird roast about Rachel from last episode, but it seems pretty clear on both ends that there are
no romantic vibes there. Rachel tries to express more interest in Jordan again,
but Jordan has his eyes on Mercedes. Ultimately Rachel decides to leave, and
forfeits her rose.
Poor Rachel has been put through the absolute ringer in this franchise. I feel like she’s never been able to gain stability for more than a day in paradise. I feel like she needs some time away from the franchise, and to meet a normal guy that’s completely separate from this world. I would love for ABC to give her a spot on dancing with the stars as reparations for everything they have put her through.

5. Most roses go where they are expected: Mercedes gives her rose to Jordan
and Jess gives her rose to Tanner.
I don’t think most of these couples are going to last. The only two that I could genuinely see getting engaged are Eliza and Aaron B.
Last Thought: I miss Olivia and want to see more of her on my screen.
